Healthy living means healthy eating!

A recent study by Stockholm University in collaboration with experts at Sweden's National Food Administration, a government food safety agency have found a link between staple foods including bread, chips and crisps which contain high levels of a substance believed to cause cancer. The substance in question is called of Acrylamide. French fries sold at Swedish franchises of US fast-food chains contained about 100 times the one microgram per litre maximum permitted by the WHO in drinking water, the study showed. The Food Administration said fried, oven-baked and deep-fried potato and cereal products may contain high levels of acrylamide.

The club was formed to promote good health as well as to provide recreational activities amongst the members and the opportunity to keep fit and to exercise. Research by leading academics has shown in numerous studies the link between fried food and diseases including obesity, heart disease and high blood pressure and decreases life expectancy if not eaten in a balanced diet.

While regular exercise is important, people do need to appreciate what exactly "regular exercise" is. Although walking is a form of exercise, a 30 minute walk is not the same as a 30 run. Exercise that increases your heart rate to 65-85% of it maximum is what's crucial. For those of you who are unable to participate in high impact activities such as running should consider the benefits of hard working low impact exercises, such as a brisk walk, which will also increase your heart rate. For more information on effective low impact sports and activities consult your doctor or physician. According to leading scientific sources and doctors 30 minutes of vigorous exercise is the minimum required EACH day for a healthier
lifestyle but this is based on healthy eating too. Remember if your
diet is unhealthy then you will obviously need to do more
exercise each day.

We must attack this growing obesity epidemic in our community before it's too late. The information is startling and it's no good hiding behind the fact that we do exercise regularly. It's no good taking 2 steps forward but 10 steps back. So perhaps the next time you're enjoying your delicious, yet highly unhealthy foods, you might want to think about how much EXTRA exercise you will need to do to burn off that entire additional fat intake. Remember it's up to you to actually take the necessary steps to avoid an unhealthy diet.
